Anant Ambani, the younger son of Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, recently revealed his dream project for a massive animal shelter called "Vantara,". The project aims at a ground-breaking conservation effort towards animals. Let's know more what it is all about.

Built over an enormous 3,000-acre animal sanctuary, The Vantara is a comprehensive Animal Rescue, Care, Conservation, and Rehabilitation programme. He is a director on the boards of RIL and the Reliance Foundation. “We are focused on protecting critically endangered species native to India. We also want to restore vital habitats and address urgent threats to species and establish Vantara as a leading-edge conservation programme,” Anant Ambani told reporters on Sunday.

Anant Ambani's love & passion for animals has been constant throughout his life. He envisioned Vantara as more than just a rescue centre, but as a comprehensive ecosystem committed to animal welfare. This vision, along with the resources of Reliance Industries and the Reliance Foundation, established Vantara on February 26, 2024.

The Vantara ecosystem, which is spread across the green belt of Reliance's Jamnagar Refinery Complex in Gujarat, includes a 3,000-acre Elephant Centre that houses over 200 rescued elephants, as well as a 'Green Zoological Rescue & Rehabilitation Centre' that houses over 2,000 animals from 43 different species.

The animal exchange programmes were only carried out after obtaining prior consent from the Chief Wildlife Wardens of the individual states and the Central Zoo Authority in accordance with the regulations of the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 and the Zoo Rules of 2009.

A non-profit initiative, the elephant centre is closed to the public while the rescue and rehabilitation centre is slated to open its doors for educational institutions in a bid to increase awareness of conservation issues among people. Meanwhile, according to Anant Ambani, a 500-acre zoological facility is also in the works, which will be opened to the public in the future.
