This is the story of Siddappa, a Karnataka farmer, who designed unique water mill to generate electricity. The idea mini mill is a sustainable solution to generate electricity for his house developed using plastic tubs and timber.

A farmer from Karnataka is catching attention of social media and praises from Indian cricketer VVS Laxman for creating a unique water mill that generates electricity.

Siddappa who lives in a remote village has designed a water mill using plastic tubs and timber which is capable of generating about 150 watts of power. Siddappa started working on the customised watermill after the Hubli Electricity Supply Company Limited (HESCOM) denied supply to his home for being too remote.

This motivated him to build windmills to generate electricity — a mechanism he observed from the hills of Naragund. “He spent just Rs. 5,000 on the construction, and gets 150 watts of power from this water mill when water flows in the canal,” Laxman said.

The farmer also claimed that he would be able to generate electricity for his entire village from the machine.

The mill generates enough power to light up to 10 bulbs of 60 watts and two TV sets.
