In a significant move towards digital India, the Government of India has launched Pan 2.0, a transformative initiative aimed at modernizing the Permanent Account Number (PAN) system. This ambitious project seeks to streamline taxpayer services, enhance security, and foster a more efficient tax administration system.
Understanding Pan 2.0
The Income Tax Department's PAN 2.0 Project has received approval from the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA). By streamlining and modernizing the PAN and TAN management and issuance process, this initiative seeks to increase its usability and effectiveness. With a current PAN database of 78 crore PANs and 73.28 lakh TANs, the initiative aims to meet taxpayer needs by consolidating several platforms and portals and providing PAN/TAN users with effective services.
PAN-related services are currently available on three distinct platforms: Protean e-Gov Portal, UTIITSL Portal, and eFiling Portal. When PAN 2.0 is put into place, all of these services will be combined into one cohesive platform. Under the Project, the PAN number will become a Common Business Identifier, meaning the PAN will be utilized as a common identifier in the specified government agencies’ digital system.
Aadhaar-PAN linkage, TAN and PAN issues, re-issue requests, updates, corrections, applications, and even online PAN validation would all be covered by this one-stop website. The Income Tax Department does this in an effort to streamline procedures, cut down on delays, and enhance grievance redressal systems.
Aligning with the Digital India agenda is also made possible by the PAN 2.0 Project. It emphasizes environmentally friendly, paperless procedures and creates PAN as a standard identification for all digital systems of designated government organizations.
Key features of PAN 2.0:
• Unified Portal : Development of a single portal for all PAN/TAN-related services to simplify access for users.
• Eco-friendly Approach : Adoption of the latest technology to make the processes paperless less, reduce paperwork & minimize paper consumption.
• Free Upgradation: PAN will be issued free of cost, with quicker processing times.
• PAN Data Vault : Personal and demographic data will be protected through enhanced security measures, including a PAN Data Vault.
• Dedicated Call Center : Setting up a dedicated Call Center and helpdesk to address user queries and issues, or grievances. It will provide a redressal system to ensure faster response.
The government has announced an outlay of ₹1435 crore to implement and execute the project. By guaranteeing quicker service delivery, efficient grievance redressal, and improved security of sensitive data, this upgradation aims to improve the overall experience for taxpayers. Additionally, the project will provide online PAN/TAN applications, data updates, and digital PAN information validation. The Income Tax Department has made a big step toward building a smooth, open, and inclusive system for taxpayers by combining and reengineering these procedures.
What you need to do about PAN 2.0 ?
The current PAN Card has already QR code enabled since 2017, so unless you have a PAN card without a QR code, you do not need to apply for a new PAN card. However, those who wish to update or correct their PAN card details, such as mobile number, address, etc. can do it without any charges to the authority under the PAN 2.0 Project through the UTIITSL portal at https://www.pan.utiitsl.com/PAN_ONLINE/homeaddresschange
or
NSDL at https://www.pan.utiitsl.com/PAN_ONLINE/homeaddresschange.
